Medical Photo Quality Check

Use browser-local photo guidance to find potential glare, blur, framing and exposure problems before sending a photo.

Open a supported image locally. All preview scores are experimental visual heuristics and may miss defects; review the saved original yourself.

0 of 3 manual checks completed. These are human checks, not automatic detection.

No medical interpretation. Keep official records. Quality hints are experimental; use Manual capture when Auto is unreliable. Switch to the universal camera.

Private workspace: camera preview, uploaded medical images, review and export controls do not contain advertising. No ad click is needed to capture, export or download.

CAPTURE WORKSPACE

Medical film camera

Use a backlit film viewer where possible. Avoid flash reflections and keep the phone parallel to the film.

🔒 On-device processing

A visual alignment aid only. Borders, grid lines, labels and screen artifacts must be checked by you; this guide does not detect them.

▣
Camera is off

Start the camera, or choose an image from your device.

Live guide: start the camera; place the entire film or page in the guide.

Export filenames include the selected film type, an available device label and your local date/time. This appears only in the filename, never on the medical image.

Only supported camera controls appear after permission. The app never uploads device identifiers.

Auto captures only after several stable, centered, well-framed preview checks. You can switch to Manual anytime.

UMF VIEWER

Open a .umf package

Read a UMF file locally, validate its integrity and compare the original with the derivative.

Experimental UMF 1.0 supports uncompressed ZIP entries generated by this app; not a recognized medical standard.

Available features depend on your browser and device. Quality hints help photography only and do not establish diagnostic accuracy. Medical image pixels are never stamped with export filenames.

Preparation and review for Medical Photo Quality Check

The challenge this tool helps you review

A heuristic quality score can flag a potential technical problem, but cannot prove that clinical details are readable.

MedCam helps make a photographic copy easier to inspect and share. The app's camera and editing controls can vary with your browser and device. Its local quality hints can miss important problems, so manual checks remain essential.

Before taking the photo

  1. Open the original photo using the existing MedCam gallery button.
  2. Look at the image at its real resolution, not only a small preview.
  3. Use quality guidance as a reason to review or retake, not as permission to diagnose.

Capture and export in three steps

  1. Use the camera on this page with the Medical photo preset selected. Grant camera permission only if you choose live capture, or use an existing photo from your device.
  2. Review the untouched original, check the guidance for blur, light and framing, and optionally apply conservative adjustments to a separate derived image.
  3. After checking the content yourself, download the supported JPG, PNG or PDF copy, or select native Share when supported by your browser and receiving app.
Open this camera workspace

What to check before sharing

  1. Check for missing corners, orientation markers and unreadable labels.
  2. Use the original as the reference whenever applying adjustments.
  3. Retake the photo when glare or blur permanently obscures source information.

Safety limit: Quality estimates are not validated diagnostic or image-integrity assessments. Do not use photo quality guidance to make a medical decision or to replace a medical professional.

Privacy, file formats and browser limitations

By design the MedCam image-capture, review and local export code runs in your browser; current standalone tool pages do not load third-party ads or tracking. A downloaded original may contain EXIF metadata and identifying information. If you share the photo through a different application, that application may transmit it under its own terms. Keep the source document and verify the recipient.

Camera support depends on HTTPS, device permissions, browser APIs and camera hardware. Manual upload remains an option if live camera controls are unavailable. An export's availability does not guarantee that an external messaging app accepts the file.

HOW IT WORKS

Capture with guidance. Keep an audit trail.

01

Prepare the film

Use a medical film viewer or evenly illuminated surface. Keep all film corners visible and minimize room reflections.

02

Auto or manual capture

Auto mode waits for stable, centered sample frames; manual mode is always available. Neither mode guarantees diagnostic clarity.

03

Review both versions

Compare the untouched original with an optional adjusted copy. Capture quality warnings are visual heuristics, not diagnoses.

04

Export and verify

Save a JPG, PNG or PDF, or a UMF prototype containing both images, provenance records and SHA-256 checksums.

PRACTICAL HELP, NOT JUST A CAMERA

Solve common medical-photo problems

Need a usable image for a clinician? Start with the complete-sheet photo, check tiny text and glare in the original, then choose a file format the recipient accepts. A quality score is only a prompt for human review.

Seven-point photo review

Check corners, smallest labels, blur, reflections, edits, personal details and the intended recipient.

RESEARCH & INDEPENDENT REVIEW

Validate camera guidance with actual photographs

Our experimental quality checks are not trained or clinically validated. The local-only MedCam Photo Validation Lab lets reviewers compare suggestions with their own photographs, label false-ready and false-retake cases, and export anonymized evaluation results. Do not upload patient photos to websites without appropriate consent.

FAQ

Questions about privacy and image quality

Does MedCam upload medical pictures?

No. The included capture, processing, file export and UMF viewer work locally in your browser. If you later add ads, analytics, cloud backups or third-party scripts, document and reassess their privacy impact.

Will every camera take the same-quality image?

No. MedCam adapts to available browser-camera capabilities and offers guidance; it cannot overcome missing sensor detail, bad optics or poor original films.

Does UMF replace DICOM or PDF?

No. UMF is an experimental ZIP-based package proposed for preserving a photo and its history. It is not an international standard, DICOM acquisition or certified medical record.

Can I directly send an image to WhatsApp or Messages?

On supported mobile browsers, choose a file and tap Share via apps. Your operating system presents its installed share targets, including WhatsApp or messaging apps if they accept that file. A browser cannot guarantee an app appears or that it accepts experimental UMF files. Use the Download button when file sharing is unsupported.

Why might Auto Mode not take a picture?

Auto mode requires successive stable preview checks and a likely framed subject; some films and backlights confuse heuristics. Switch to Manual to capture and review the result yourself.

Correct four corners

Select corners in order: top-left, top-right, bottom-right, bottom-left. Approximate geometry correction; original stays unchanged.
