Right device, right camera controls
Not every camera exposes the same features to a website. Some browsers allow manual zoom, torch or focus changes; others provide only a video stream. MedCam inspects the active camera after permission and only presents available controls.
What is checked?
The browser's video track may provide its current width, height, facing direction, supported zoom range and focus modes. The controls are offered only when the browser reports useful values. If applying a setting fails or cannot be verified, MedCam hides that control rather than showing false success.
How to use the positioning guide
The 2.5D illustration uses a low-resolution estimate of the film's position. It can suggest moving left, right, up, down, closer or farther. These are not measured distances, angles, or validated 3D tracking. If the subject outline is uncertain, align it manually and inspect the full-resolution capture.
If your device is slow or incompatible
MedCam uses lighter preview analysis when hardware hints suggest limited performance. Camera failures fall back to using the phone's camera/gallery; this does not need special zoom, depth sensors or permission to read a device model. The original image remains separately preserved.
Medical-image caution
No browser can recover detail missing from a photographed film. Confirm small CT/MRI labels, ECG traces, document text, annotations, and privacy information before sharing. Prefer original DICOM data or hospital reports when available.

An expected feature-by-feature decision
MedCam's controls follow a capability-first approach. A browser that supports camera preview may still omit a zoom range or torch. Even if an API reports support, the hardware may reject a requested setting: the application should keep the preview usable and allow manual capture.
- Camera permission denied: offer gallery upload or use the device's own camera application.
- Torch not reported: do not show a torch switch; improve room lighting instead.
- Focus controls missing: allow native autofocus and manual capture without pretending a software toggle exists.
- Share files unsupported: download a compatible JPG or PDF and share it from the intended app.
- Slow or low-memory phone: favor a shorter preview and smaller working copy, while keeping the untouched original separately.
This describes expected software fallbacks rather than an independently verified device brand matrix. Use the browser self-test on each actual device.
