X-ray Film Photo Tool

Photograph a printed X-ray film with controlled backlighting and check reflections before sharing the photograph.

The camera, upload and export controls run in MedCam's shared workspace with the relevant film type selected. No separate cloud image upload service is used.

The challenge this tool helps you review

Transparent X-ray film can lose faint detail when placed against a bright point light, while fingerprints and reflections can cover labels.

MedCam helps make a photographic copy easier to inspect and share. The app's camera and editing controls can vary with your browser and device. Its local quality hints can miss important problems, so manual checks remain essential.

Before taking the photo

  1. Clean the film gently using appropriate handling guidance; do not scratch or alter the original.
  2. Place the X-ray against a broad, evenly illuminated light source and avoid a visible lamp hotspot.
  3. Keep the phone parallel to the film, leaving all borders, identifying labels and orientation markers in view.

Capture and export in three steps

  1. Open the shared MedCam camera with the X-ray film preset selected. Grant camera permission only if you choose live capture, or use an existing photo from your device.
  2. Review the untouched original, check the guidance for blur, light and framing, and optionally apply conservative adjustments to a separate derived image.
  3. After checking the content yourself, download the supported JPG, PNG or PDF copy, or select native Share when supported by your browser and receiving app.

What to check before sharing

  1. Check both dark and pale regions on the original photograph at full size.
  2. Retake if a flash reflection hides even one important area or label.
  3. Compare any brightness adjustment to the untouched original before sending.

Safety limit: A photograph of an X-ray film cannot replace the original radiology image or clinical interpretation. Do not use photo quality guidance to make a medical decision or to replace a medical professional.

Privacy, file formats and browser limitations

By design the MedCam image-capture, review and local export code runs in your browser; current standalone tool pages do not load third-party ads or tracking. A downloaded original may contain EXIF metadata and identifying information. If you share the photo through a different application, that application may transmit it under its own terms. Keep the source document and verify the recipient.

Camera support depends on HTTPS, device permissions, browser APIs and camera hardware. Manual upload remains an option if live camera controls are unavailable. An export's availability does not guarantee that an external messaging app accepts the file.
