About MedCam
MedCam is a developing, browser-based tool intended to make photographs of printed medical films and documents more consistent, reviewable and portable across different smartphones and computers.
Why it exists
A photograph's readability can depend on lighting, focus, reflections, movement and the actual capabilities of the user's camera. MedCam offers approximate feedback, a choice of automatic or manual capture, and separate original/derived exports.
About the UMF proposal
The proposed Universal Medical Film package stores the unchanged photo alongside a processed copy, quality observations and a record of what the software changed. UMF has not been approved as a global standard and must not be confused with DICOM or a validated diagnostic recording.
Medical responsibility
MedCam does not diagnose conditions or validate image quality for clinical use. Any future claims of suitability for medical workflows require independent technical, regulatory and clinical assessments. Photography guides are general information, not clinical advice.
Project transparency
This release is a functional prototype, not a certified product. A public launch must identify the responsible operator, provide a monitored contact address and publish validation evidence rather than unsupported reliability claims.
What direct sharing does and does not do
Supported browsers can hand a prepared JPG, PNG or PDF to the operating system share sheet after the user clicks Share. MedCam does not select a recipient, upload a medical image to its hosting server or verify delivery. File-sharing support varies by app and browser. Learn about private medical image sharing.
