How to photograph medical documents clearly
Published 2 November 2026 ยท SUNDO.live Editorial
When sharing a printed report or prescription with a healthcare professional, a clear photograph can make text easier to read. It should not replace the original document.
Use even light
Place the paper on a flat surface near soft, indirect light. Avoid strong reflections and shadows. If using a glossy film, do not assume a phone photo accurately preserves diagnostic information.
Keep the entire page visible
Check that the patient's identifiers, dates, reference ranges and report edges are included when medically relevant. Only share personal details with trusted recipients.
Focus before capturing
Hold the phone steady and tap on the text to focus when your camera supports it. Retake the photo if numbers or fine print are blurred.
Preserve the original
Keep an untouched copy. Brightness and contrast changes can obscure subtle details, especially in imaging films. A clinician should interpret original clinical images and records, not enhanced photos.
Protect privacy
Review recipients before sending medical information. Avoid uploading private records to unknown websites or public forums.
